BA (Hons) Arch
John Letherland leads the Urban Design Group. After graduating from
architecture school in Manchester, John joined Terry Farrell and Partners
in 1981. He has acquired a wealth of knowledge in the areas of masterplanning
and urban design, particularly in historic towns and cities and in
the re-use of existing listed buildings. This experience has combined
successfully in a variety of high profile mixed-use, residential,
cultural and arts-related projects. John has particular expertise
in the preparation of framework studies, whereby the full potential
of sensitive sites is explored. Urban regeneration and infrastructure
in core cities is a central focus. John is responsible for assembling
and leading multi-disciplinary teams of specialist consultants including
architects, planners, engineers, ecologists, historians and artists
in order that TFP has a uniquely qualified network via which it can
successfully interpret and develop the brief from clients.
John’s team is currently engaged on a number of schemes in cities
across the UK, including London, Newcastle and Manchester. Under his
direction, the Urban Design Group are developing an intellectual framework
for the enhancement of the Marylebone-Euston Road, with the objective
of linking communities and places together to create a truly connected
area of public realm. Eastwards, the Thames Gateway has been identified
as a major regeneration area and John is co-ordinating TFP’s
proposals aimed at understanding and realising the full capabilities
of this world-class landscape.
