healING
Terry Farrell and Partners are working on a
number of projects in the healthcare sector. A common theme is sensitivity
to the existing site, whilst devising
innovative solutions to progress the tremendous opportunities to create
vibrant new quarters. As far back as the 1980's, TFP carried out
studies of aspects of hospital culture for the Bloomsbury hospitals, identifying
problems associated with mono-culturality. TFP sought to change the perception
of hospitals as large forbidding entities and replace them as 'gentle
giants,' integrating within the urban fabric. This is achieved by
creating mini-communities or villages. This model has subsequently been
adapted in schemes for The London Clinic and at Founder's Court,
St. Thomas's Hospital in Lambeth, where the focus is on delivering
a new neighbourhood benefiting staff, patients, their families and the
wider community. |
